[00:00:00] If you've ever ended a long week thinking I should have handled that better or second guessed a decision you made with your team, you might think you're behind.
[00:00:09] But that self doubt, well, it's actually the number one sign you're a savvy business owner. Even if it doesn't feel like it. You're listening to why your business isn't growing and how to fix it. The Business Growth podcast for small business owners and SME leaders who want to scale, lift team performance and Sharpen leadership without 60 hour weeks. G'. Day. I'm Brendan Rogers and today I want to help you reframe one of the biggest lies business owners tell themselves. The belief that second guessing or self reflection means you're not confident enough, not experienced enough, or not there yet, well, here's the truth. The fact that you pause, reflect and question yourself is is proof that you're paying attention, that you're growing.
[00:00:57] That you actually care about doing things the right way for your team, for your clients and for your business.
[00:01:04] And that's not weakness, that's wisdom.
[00:01:08] In thousands of coaching sessions over 10 plus years, I've noticed something interesting.
[00:01:14] The best business owners, the ones that are running high performing teams on, often say things like, I feel like I should know this by now or I'm frustrated because I'm still learning how to lead properly.
[00:01:26] They think that uncertainty is a flaw. But here's the secret.
[00:01:30] Awareness is the superpower of every savvy leader.
[00:01:35] You see average business owners react.
[00:01:38] Savvy business owners reflect. They slow down long enough to ask what worked, what didn't, what can I do better next time? And that's not overthinking, it's leadership in motion.
[00:01:51] Every time you pause to evaluate your actions, you're doing what I call the leadership loop. You're learning while leading. And that loop is what separates hands on hustlers from high impact leaders.
[00:02:05] In a recent coaching session, a client said to me, I just wish I was more confident in how I handle my team.
[00:02:12] Then I asked him, do you reflect after each meeting? And he said every time I replayed in my head thinking about what I could have said differently. And I told him, well that's not a weakness, that's your edge. And why? Because that level of self awareness means he's developing character, competence and connection, the three ingredients of real leadership growth.
[00:02:35] That reflection builds clarity, that clarity builds confidence, and confidence compounds into results.
[00:02:46] So if you want to know whether you're a savvy business owner, look for these signs. Number one, you reflect before reacting. You don't get every call right, but you learn from every single one.
[00:02:59] You care about how your actions affect others, and that's emotional intelligence in action, the real driver of team performance.
[00:03:08] And number three, you're open to growth. You read, you listen, you ask questions. Because you know that growth starts with you. And these aren't the soft traits, they're actually the strategic advantages.
[00:03:23] So if you've been doubting yourself lately, then stop. The very fact that you're thinking about being a better leader proves that you already are one.
[00:03:32] Being savvy isn't about having all the answers. It's about staying curious enough to keep finding better ones. To keep showing up, keep reflecting, keep leading. Because that's what the smartest business owners do. They learn their way to growth.
