[00:00:00] Sometimes the biggest lessons in growing your business and leadership development don't come from a boardroom. They come from a Coldplay concert. [00:00:08] Six seconds on a Kiss Cam exposed. Two senior leaders cost them the jobs and sent a shockwave through their company. [00:00:15] In this episode, I'll show you why your business growth depends on being ready for your own Kiss Cam moment and how to lead in a way you'd be proud to have broadcast to the world. Welcome to why your business isn't growing and how to fix it, a podcast for business owners who want practical, people powered ways to grow your business without burning out. Hey, I'm Brendan Rogers. Imagine you're at a Coldplay concert. The lights dim, the crowd roars. [00:00:42] Then boom. Your face pops up on the Kiss Cam for 60,000 people to see. [00:00:48] You freeze. They duck. You both scramble to get off the screen. [00:00:53] That's exactly what happened last month. Except it wasn't just two random people. [00:00:58] It was the CEO and chief people officer of a tech company called Astronomer. The clip went viral. Chris Martin joked about it on stage. An internal investigation followed. Both leaders resigned. The brand took a hit. All from six seconds on a Jumbotron. This isn't gossip. It's a leadership exposure moment. And it's exactly the kind of thing I help business owners prevent every day. [00:01:24] Most business owners, especially hands on hustlers, spend years trying to control their business image. But here's the truth. [00:01:32] Culture shows up before you want it to. And when it does, it tells the world more than your website ever could. [00:01:39] Your team, your decisions, your leadership habits, they're all being watched. Sooner or later, that Kiss Cam finds you. Let's break this down using my six part methodology. [00:01:52] The people powered high impact leader system. [00:01:55] Because if you want to go from hands on Hustler to high impact leader, you need to lead in a way that you'd be proud to have caught on camera any day of the week. My first pillar is perceive. Focused on self awareness and emotional intelligence. [00:02:09] This moment screamed one thing we didn't think anyone would see. [00:02:14] High impact leaders are hyper aware not just of what they're doing, but of how it's being perceived. [00:02:21] They regulate their emotions, take ownership and receive feedback without defensiveness. If you're not aware of how your actions land with your team, clients and stakeholders, you're not leading. You're reacting. [00:02:34] My second pillar is envision. Focus on vision and strategic clarity. [00:02:40] What kind of leader are you becoming? [00:02:42] That moment exposed two people and showed a lack of shared vision and leadership identity. [00:02:48] When you don't define and Communicate your leadership vision, you leave it to chance, or worse, a Kiss Cam. [00:02:55] Your team is watching. Your culture is reflecting it back. Every day, high impact leaders cast a clear picture of where they're going and align every action and conversation to it. My third pillar is optimize and this is focused on financial and business acumen. [00:03:13] Culture isn't just what's written on the walls. It's what shows up in decisions and results. [00:03:19] High impact leaders optimise their business by knowing the key numbers, tracking performance drivers and removing waste. You want a business and team that can hold up under pressure, not one that cracks when resources are tight or the spotlight's on them. My fourth pillar is perform and this is focused on accountability and execution systems. Leadership performance isn't just about hitting quarterly targets. It's about showing up consistently. Even when it's uncomfortable. You'll have awkward conversations, you'll be challenged. High impact leaders build rhythms and accountability systems so the team knows what good looks like and delivers it week in, week out. [00:04:01] Duck those moments and you stall your business growth. [00:04:05] My fifth pillar is leverage, hiring and team development, which is about scaling through people. [00:04:11] That Kiss Cam was a stage they weren't ready for because great leadership is about multiplying capacity through others, not just managing yourself. [00:04:21] High impact leaders don't hide from visibility. [00:04:24] They leverage it to build trust, influence and credibility. [00:04:28] They hire for ownership, develop leaders at every level and empower their team to perform without constant oversight. [00:04:36] Your people are your greatest leverage, but only if you grow them. The sixth pillar is evaluate. It's about decision making and problem solving. Here's the hardest part. [00:04:48] What do you do after the awkward moment? Do you reflect and own it or do you deflect and hope people forget? [00:04:56] High impact leaders pause, evaluate and make decisions based on values, vision and the long term health of the business. They learn from the moment so they can lead better next time. [00:05:08] The Kiss Cam was never the problem. It was the spotlight that showed what was already there. [00:05:14] So here's the questions. [00:05:16] What would your Kiss Cam moment reveal? [00:05:19] Would it show trust, ownership, integrity? [00:05:23] Or would it expose gaps you've been avoiding? The the real fix. Build a leadership identity and team culture you'd be proud to have broadcasted to the world. [00:05:34] That's what the people powered high impact leader system helps you do. And that's how we move from being a hands on hustler to becoming a high impact leader. [00:05:42] Take three minutes today and ask yourself this. [00:05:46] What actions do I take that I hope no one notices? [00:05:50] What message do those actions send to my team Am I leading in a way that would hold up under the spotlight?
