[00:00:29] Most owners think strategy means a 30 page beautifully designed slide deck. Now I get it. This is what consultants get paid to deliver. But as a leadership and team performance coach, I get paid to help deliver results. [00:00:44] Now you're busy. You want clear, simple steps. So here's the flip on the 30 page beautifully designed slide deck. Thinking Keep the plan simple and make the rhythm strong. [00:00:58] On this small business podcast, we cut the fluff and get to work. [00:01:06] Simple plans create focus. [00:01:09] Focus creates momentum. [00:01:11] Momentum creates growth. And that's how we start scaling a business without burning out. [00:01:18] So let's cut to the chase. Here's my simple five question strategic plan for busy SME owners. [00:01:25] The first question what does success look like in 12 months? I want you to pick one outcome. It can be revenue focused, customer product adoption or team capability focused. Name the finish line and the date. Question 2 why does it matter? [00:01:44] Your why is the fuel where? When the going gets hard, push yourself to be able to say it in one clear sentence. [00:01:52] Question 3 How will we measure success? [00:01:55] Choose one primary metric and make it visible and review it every single week. [00:02:02] Question 4 what three to five key areas do we need to focus on to achieve success? [00:02:08] Some examples could be marketing, how you attract customers, sales, how you sell to them, product delivery of the product. Could be partnerships, could be team focused. I always like to keep to three key areas because fewer areas equals faster Progress. [00:02:25] And question five what do we need to do in the next 90 days? [00:02:30] You want one outcome per focused area. Be specific, give it a date and make sure it's owned by one person in your team. [00:02:39] Now, I use this exact one page formula for my own strategic plan. When I launched my Master 101 meetings program, my goal was to get 15 founding members, paid founding members into my Master 101 meetings program. Now I got 12 and I ran that program. The one page plan kept me focused and it worked. It gave me a simple win, which I achieved. [00:03:05] I want you to grab a pen, Write a date 12 months from today and that's your finish line. [00:03:11] Now circle three focus areas. Trust your gut and you're done. [00:03:17] So name the success by a real date. [00:03:21] Pick one metric, choose three to five focus areas and set 90 day outcomes per focus area. [00:03:30] So how do you choose the right focus areas without endless debate? In a minute I'll give you my three word filter. [00:03:37] So here's the 90 day rhythm plan in quarters. Review weekly and reset every 90 days. [00:03:44] Now here's some questions I want you to consider. [00:03:47] Do you review your plan every week? [00:03:50] Does each 90 day goal have one owner and can you see your key metric on one page? If you said no to any of these, then fix that first and turn it into a yes. [00:04:02] Now here's my three word filter that I mentioned earlier. [00:04:05] Use Money plus Momentum plus Risk So will this area, will this key area drive money in the next 90 days? Will it create momentum this month and will it reduce risk that could hit hard later? [00:04:21] Pick the areas that tick at least two of these three and that's your short list. So here's your tiny checklist to implement straight away. Write your 12 month success line, choose one metric and decide on your three key focus areas. [00:04:38] Set one 90 day outcome per area. [00:04:42] Put the plan where you see it daily and execute daily small improvements every day. That's how serious growth happens.
